Winchester Mystery House — Seance Room
San Jose
Haunted Building High Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune, believed she was haunted by the victims of the gun and built her San Jose mansion continuously from 1884 until her death in 1922, adding 160 rooms, stairs that lead to ceilings, doors that open onto walls, and windows in floors. The séance room where she received nightly instructions from spirits is the most active location. Tour guides report a strong male presence in the 40-foot-tall ballroom, the sound of hammering in sealed rooms, and bells ringing from the bell tower that has no rope.
