History & Paranormal Activity
The Gothic limestone walls of the Moundsville Penitentiary held West Virginia's most violent criminals from 1876 to 1995 — including 94 executions and 36 murders within its walls. The 'Sugar Shack' recreation room, site of the most brutal prisoner violence, is consistently rated the most active paranormal location. The North Hall and execution chamber generate EVPs of screaming and moaning on nearly every investigation. In 2013, a paranormal team captured what became known as the 'Moundsville Shadow' — a full-body apparition on infrared camera that moved through a solid wall.
