History & Paranormal Activity
Arkansas's largest Native American ceremonial site, active from 700 to 1050 CE, features 18 earthen mounds — some rising 49 feet — arranged in precise astronomical alignments. The site was a major ceremonial and political center for the Plum Bayou culture. Visitors report a profound sense of presence near the largest mounds, compass deviation near the mound centers, and the feeling of being observed. The Arkansas River bottomland location creates unusual acoustic phenomena: sounds from the river are amplified and distorted within the mound complex, creating what researchers call 'sonic anomalies' that may have been intentional in the original design.
