The Sultan's Palace — Gardette-LaPrete House
New Orleans
Haunted Building High Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
In the 1830s, a wealthy Turk — believed to be an Ottoman sultan's brother — rented this French Quarter mansion and filled it with a harem, servants, and treasures. One morning neighbors noticed blood seeping under the front door: inside, every occupant had been massacred, the Turk himself buried alive in the courtyard. The murderer was never identified. Residents and passersby report screaming from the courtyard at night, an overpowering smell of incense from empty rooms, and the apparition of a turbaned man in the ground-floor windows.
