The Dumas Wesley Community Center — Tombstone Site

Nashville

Historic Site Medium Activity

History & Paranormal Activity

The Dumas Hotel, built in 1905 in what was then Nashville's Black business district, served civil rights leaders and Jazz Age performers during the Jim Crow era and connected to an Underground Railroad passage in its basement. The tunnel beneath the structure — still accessible — generates EVPs of voices speaking in urgent tones and the sound of many people moving quickly in a confined space. The apparition of a large man in a preacher's coat is seen in the main hall, and the smell of tobacco smoke from no visible source is reported by staff and visitors on evening events.
