The Captain Grant's Inn
Preston
Haunted Building Medium Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
Built in 1754 by Captain William Grant, this Connecticut inn served as a Revolutionary War gathering place and has 270 years of accumulated history. The ghost of Mercy Adelaide Avery — a young woman who died in the house in the 1700s — is most active in the Adelaide Room, moving perfume bottles and leaving the scent of rose water. Captain Grant himself appears on the staircase in period naval uniform. The inn sits on an ancient Narragansett trade route, and guests sometimes report seeing Native American figures in the tree line behind the property.
