Tahoe Tessie Sightings
South Lake Tahoe
Cryptid Low Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
Lake Tahoe's own lake monster has been reported by Washoe and Paiute tribes for centuries, who warned that a giant water creature lived in an underwater tunnel system beneath the lake. The 1,645-foot-deep lake — so cold and deep its bottom has never been fully explored — remains scientifically plausible as a hiding place for a large creature. Modern sightings describe a 10–80 foot serpentine creature surfacing briefly near Cave Rock, a site considered sacred by the Washoe people. Jacques Cousteau allegedly said after diving the lake, 'the world is not ready for what is down there.'
