Point Pleasant — Silver Bridge Collapse Site
Point Pleasant
Historic Site High Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge connecting Point Pleasant to Ohio collapsed during rush hour, killing 46 people. The collapse came 13 months after the first Mothman sighting in the area — a connection author John Keel explored in 'The Mothman Prophecies.' The current bridge that replaced it is considered active paranormal territory: fisherpeople below it report a large winged shadow passing overhead with no corresponding bird sound, and the town's TNT Area — where 100+ Mothman sightings occurred — draws investigators year-round. The original Mothman statue in downtown Point Pleasant marks the center of the phenomenon.
