Historic Site Moderate Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
The 1833 Hudson's Bay Company fort — the oldest standing structure in Washington — was reconstructed at Point Defiance Park. Rangers and visitors report a company factor in period dress who gives directions and vanishes, and a Native woman near the granary who is seen kneeling in prayer. The area around the original fort site on the Nisqually Delta reportedly produces more intense activity than the reconstruction.
🔒 Classified Field Investigation Notes
The original fort's trade ledger from 1840, held at the Washington State Historical Society, contains a final entry in a different hand from all preceding entries — the handwriting has never been attributed to any documented employee of the fort.
