Point Defiance — Fort Nisqually
Tacoma
Historic Site Medium Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
The reconstructed Fort Nisqually at Point Defiance Park is built on the site of the original 1833 Hudson's Bay Company trading post — the oldest European settlement on Puget Sound. The granary and factor's house are both considered active paranormal locations by the park's historical interpreters. A figure in period trading-post dress is seen near the granary after closing time, and the sound of musket fire and Native American drumming are occasionally reported by park staff on quiet evenings. The fort sits adjacent to land that was a significant Nisqually people ceremonial site.
