History & Paranormal Activity
Built in 1802, Charleston's Old City Jail held pirates, Confederate prisoners of war, and serial killer Lavinia Fisher — America's first female serial killer, who was executed here in 1820. Fisher reportedly wore her wedding dress to the gallows and leapt to her death before the trapdoor could be sprung, saying she would go to the devil rather than God. Her spirit, still in the wedding dress, is the most frequently seen apparition. Investigation teams capture voices in the original cell blocks and report shadow figures that move through solid walls.
