History & Paranormal Activity
Montana's best-preserved ghost town sits at 6,000 feet in the Garnet Range and is accessible only by four-wheel drive — or snowmobile in winter, when the BLM allows backcountry stays in the original buildings. The most persistent report involves music and laughter emanating from the hotel ruins on winter nights, as though a phantom saloon is still operating inside the collapsed walls. Former BLM caretakers who spent winters at Garnet documented unusual sounds, moving objects, and the distinct smell of woodsmoke when no fires were burning.
