History & Paranormal Activity
General George Armstrong Custer marched from this fort in May 1876 on the campaign that ended at Little Bighorn. His wife Libbie refused to believe in omens but documented seeing the regiment's doubles — a phantom column of men and horses in the sky above the fort — the morning they departed. None of those men returned. Today, visitors and park rangers report seeing uniformed cavalry soldiers on the reconstructed fort grounds, the sound of bugle calls at dawn, and a woman in Civil War-era dress looking out from the Custer House windows.
