Congress Hotel
Chicago
Haunted Building High Activity
History & Paranormal Activity
Chicago's oldest operating hotel, built in 1893 for the World's Columbian Exposition, has accumulated over 130 years of dark history including an attempted presidential assassination on its steps and a suicide epidemic in the Florentine Room during Prohibition. The 'Greaseman' — a spectral figure covered in black grease — wanders the lower floors. A woman and two small children appear in the Gold Room ballroom. Staff report the elevators travel to floors on their own and doors to sealed rooms swing open during the night shift.
